Bug Fix: If you enqueue a bunch of files that get put below what is displayed in the playlist window, winamp doesn't read the id3 tag until it starts playing that file. This would cause the track length to be displayed as "0:00". I changed the script to check that and redetect the track length if needed. If you had downloaded either of the xlance skins prior to this update, please re-download them.

My first skin ever was zLance. That started as a severe tweak of Arby's skin, but better suited to the odd resolution of the touchscreen I was planning to buy. After it was complete, I decided that the playlist would be too small to really work well on a touchscreen. So, I decided to rebuild the skin with the playlist integrated as a drawer. Along the way, I added some other cool MAKI scripts that allowed me to simplify the look of the interface. After it was complete in my favorite color of blue, another tweak was in line. The car I plan to put this in has red gauges, so I needed a red skin. The red and blue versions of xLance are identical except for the color schemes.

Notes on xLance: This skin is designed specifically to be full screen on a touchscreen at 800x480 resolution. On the right side are two arrows that control the "drawers" that contain both the playlist and the skip controls. You can change the font size of the playlist to make it easier to read. The key commands CTRL+ and CTRL- will do that. At this point, a am unable to find a way to resize the scroll bar for the playlist.
My initial plan was to have a 7" widescreen format touchscreen in the dash of my car with a MP3 player that takes up the whole screen. Winamp3 looked to be a simple way to do this. I ended up with the zlance skin. I used examples from the arbytech skin, the winamp skinning tutorial, and the winamp forums. My requirements for the skin were:
  • 800 x 480 screen minus the start bar and playlist editor
  • Simple
  • High contrast for bright environments
  • Large buttons for touchscreen use
  • Not CPU intensive
Here is a pic of the touchscreen this skin was built for. It is a 7" widescreen format that fits great in a double DIN hole. The link is to my ideal install of this touchscreen. When powered off, it looks like a blank panel and very hidden.
